Erbil, February 4, 2026 – The Lebanese French University (LFU) organized an impactful workshop titled “Work and Role of the Directorate for Combating Violence Against Women and Families / Erbil and the Law on Combating Domestic Violence”, presented by Dr. Seerwan Sulaiman, Payraw Anwar, and Nergz Sulaiman. The event brought together faculty members and students to address one of the most urgent social challenges in contemporary society.

The speakers highlighted the prevalence and consequences of domestic and gender‑based violence, emphasizing the importance of legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms in protecting vulnerable groups. They discussed the role of the Directorate in Erbil, outlining its responsibilities in prevention, intervention, and support services for survivors. The workshop also examined the broader legal context, focusing on how legislation can serve as a tool for justice and social change.

The interactive session featured case studies, group discussions, and practical insights into community‑based strategies. Participants engaged in dialogue about barriers to reporting, cultural sensitivities, and the need for stronger collaboration between universities, civil society, and government institutions in advancing awareness and protection.

This workshop reflects LFU’s ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence and promoting awareness of critical social issues that affect families and communities.
