On Thursday, April 25, 2024, College of Education and Languages, the Department of General Education held an international workshop entitled “Discourse Analysis and Literature” The workshop was about examining the role of Discourse Analysis and Literature in interaction. By Discourse Analysis and Literature, the presenters meant not only the traditional interpretation of them but also discourse Analysis as a Tool in teaching literature. At the beginning of the workshop, the first presenter, Asst. Lect. Ahmed Azeez talked about the integration of discourse analysis and literature. Then, the second presenter Professor Dr.Ferma Lekesizalin introduced some general points about The Discourse of Financial Transactions and Its critical Meaning in Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit. Then the second presenter, Professor Dr. Kawa Sherwani explained some details about Discourse Analysis and Literature. In the workshop 30 staff members have participated.
Workshop Outcomes:
- To be aware about that discourse analysis looks at the overall meanings conveyed by language in context not only meanings of individual words and sentences.
- To know that Dickens’s Little Dorrit criticizes the mercenary attitudes in the British society and this is a critique based on a discourse of financial transactions which signifies the shift in the human relationships.
Presenter/s Information:
- Ferma LEKESİZALIN PhD. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi. Currently, she currently teaches at Istanbul Topkapi University.
- Kawa Sherwani PhD. He is a previous rector of Erbil Polytechnic University. He is Specialized in English Language and linguistics, more specifically discourse analysis. Now, he teaches at different universities including Salaheddin University, Lebanese French university and Kurdistan University- Hawler.
- Ahmed Azeez holds MA. in English language and literature at Istanbul Aydin University. Currently, he is a PhD student and teachers in the college of Education and languages, Department of General Education at Lebanese French University.
