World Arabic Language Day

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, the Department of Arabic Language and Translation at the College of Education and Languages ​​held a national workshop entitled “International Arabic Language Day”.

In the first session, Assistant Professor Dr. Sirwan Anwar Majid Al-Teaching at the Technical University presented the Media Department in Erbil and spoke about the importance of the date on which it was decided to celebrate in the Arabic language on December 18, being the day on which General Assembly Resolution 3190 (D-28) was issued. ) of December 18, 1973, concerning the inclusion of the Arabic language among the official and working languages ​​of the United Nations.

In the second session, Dr. Salar Abdullah Ahmed Al-Taridi at the University of Salah al-Din, in the Department of Arabic Language at the Shaqlawa College of Education and a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language and Translation, presented and spoke about the Arabic language and civilized communication, which is considered as a call to reaffirm the important role that the Arabic language plays in Extending bridges of connection between people through culture, science, literature and many other fields.

The sessions were moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Sami Nasser, Head of the Arabic Language and Translation Department at the Lebanese French University. In addition, Dr. participated through her management of the session by presenting some ideas for this international day, as it is a day that embodies the importance of teaching languages ​​in general and teaching Arabic. In particular.

The workshop was attended by about 19 teachers from Salahaddin University and Lebanese French University, who appreciated the workshop and the ideas that were presented and discussed in it.

Workshop Outcomes:

The main outcomes of this workshop were the emphasis on:

1-The Arabic language has many beauty features that make it unique among the world languages

2- The date of Arabic joining the six languages ​​of the United Nations is a glimmer of hope for the rest of the languages ​​that have not yet joined the organization.

3- The Arabic language is one of the most prevalent languages ​​in the Arab community, as there are more than 290 million people who use it daily, and on December 18 of each year the International Day of the Arabic Language is celebrated, given that it is the universal language in the Arab and Western world.
