Module Overview

This module introduces postgraduate participants to the principles and practices of Competency-Based Education (CBE) in higher education. It equips future university instructors with the knowledge and skills required to design outcome-oriented courses and modules that align teaching, learning, and assessment with clearly defined competencies. Participants will learn how to formulate measurable learning outcomes, structure curricula, calculate and allocate ECTS credits, and prepare comprehensive module descriptions in line with international higher education standards. Emphasis is placed on learner-centered pedagogy, constructive alignment, authentic assessment, and quality assurance to ensure relevance, transparency, and academic rigor in university teaching.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:

Explain the principles and theoretical foundations of Competency-Based Education and their application in higher education contexts
Design competency-based course and module learning outcomes aligned with program objectives and qualification frameworks
Develop coherent curriculum structures that integrate competencies, content, teaching strategies, and assessment methods
Calculate and allocate ECTS credits based on student workload, learning activities, and expected learning outcomes
Prepare complete and standardized module descriptions, including learning outcomes, delivery methods, assessment strategies, and workload distribution
Apply constructive alignment and authentic assessment approaches to ensure valid measurement of student competencies
