Department of English Language Conducted a National Workshop Entitled: Strategies to Guide University Students to Become Independent English Language Learners

Department of English language in the College of Education and Languages conducted a national workshop entitled “Strategies to guide university students to become independent English language learners” on May 19^th, 2024. The workshop was effectively delivered by two staff members in the English department: Asst. Lect. Nian Saeed Abdullah and Asst. Lect. Meram Salim. At the beginning, Asst. Lect. Nian Saeed Abdullah talked about how university students can become independent English language learners. Since independent learners are taking responsibility of their own learning and evaluate their progress, they get engaged in the learning process efficiently and raise their motivation toward learning, too. She specifically discussed some strategies to help students become independent learners. Afterwards Asst. Lect. Meram Salim, mentioned two strategies after picking up the plan and setting it up as a habit she clarified that learners need to know their type of learning and how to reflect on their learning. To end the workshop, they asked the audience to enrich the topic by suggesting some unmentioned strategies for independent language learners.

Workshop Outcomes:

1. Guiding students to become independent learners.
2. Raising University lecturers’ awareness to become the source of students guidance toward independent learners.

بەشی زمانی ئینگلیزی لە  کۆلێژی پەروەردە و زمان وۆرکشۆپێکی ناوخۆیی ئەنجامدا بە ناونیشانی ”چەند ستراتیژییەک بۆ ڕێنمونی کردنی قوتابیان تا ببن بە فێرخوازی زمانی ئینگلیزی سەربەخۆ“ لە ڕێکەوتی ١٩\٥\٢٠٢٤دا. وۆرکشۆپەکە سەرکەوتووانە لەلایەن دوو مامۆستای بەشی زمانی ئینگلیزی (م.ی. نیان سعید عبداللە) و (م.ی. مێرەم سالم) پێشکەشکرا. لەسەرەتادا، م.ی. نیان سعید عبداللە بابەتی ئەوەی کە چۆن دەکرێت قوتابیانی زانکۆ ببن بە فێرخوازی سەربەخۆ تاوتوێ کرد. فێرخوازی سەربەخۆ گرنگە چونکە وا دەکات کە قوتابی خۆی بەرپرسیارەتی فێربوونی ی خۆی هەڵبگرێت هەروەها ناوەناوە ئاستی خۆیشی هەڵدەسەنگێنێت. ئەم دوو خاڵە وا دەکات کە قوتابی تەواو بچێتە قوڵای پڕۆسەی فێربوونی زمانەکەو ئاستی پاڵنەری فێربوونیشی بەرزبێتەوە. مامۆستا مێرەم سالم باسی لە بەکارهێنانی رێگای جیاواز کرد بۆ فێربوونی زمان و رەنگدانەوە لەسەر رێگاکانی فێربوون.  مامۆستایان باسیان چەند ستراتیژییەکیان تاوتوێ کرد کە یارمەتیدەرن بۆ ئەوەی قوتابی بخاتە سەر ڕێچکەی فێربوونی سەربەخۆ و لە کۆتایی وۆرکشۆپەکە راو بۆچوونی ئامادەبوانیان وەرگرت و داوایان کرد هەر یەکەیان چەند ستراتیژییەک پێشنیار بکەن
