On Sunday, December 3, 2023, the Medical Laboratory Science department from Health Science and Nursing Colleges held the national workshop entitled “Binary Code VS Genetic Code ”.
The workshop was presented by Assist.Lect. Rizhin Nuree Othman and Assist.Lect. Hozan I. Rwandzy.
the first session of the workshop focused on Binary Code, the participants were introduced to binary code and where it lies in our computers and devices, then the importance and reason behind using it in computers was discussed . The end of the session focused on transforming binary to decimal and ASCII code.
the second session aimed to educate participants about the fundamental principles, structure, and function of the genetic code.
- Understanding the genetic code: Explaining how the sequence of nucleotides in DNA/RNA translates into the sequence of amino acids in proteins.
- Evolution of the genetic code: Discuss the evolution and universality of the genetic code across different species.
- Codons and amino acids: Exploring the relationship between specific sequences of three nucleotides (codons) and the corresponding amino acids they encode.
- Codon usage and its implications: Analyzing how variations in codon usage impact gene expression, protein production, and evolutionary processes.
- Genetic diseases and mutations: Discuss how alterations in the genetic code, such as mutations, can lead to genetic diseases and cancer and their health implications.
the workshop was concluded with a mutual point between these two codes which is a very interesting and hot research area nowadays and that’s using Synthetic human DNA to store Binary data.
