The Department of Sociology in the College of Law and International Relations at Lebanese French University held a scientific national workshop entitled ‘’Feminism in Kurdistan Region of Iraq’’. The workshop was presented by lecturer Suzan Sabri, Head of the Sociology Department in coordination with Lecturer Wzhar Fahri who is teaching in the Department of Diplomacy and International Relations.
The workshop was located in the university’s seminar hall on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023, at 2:00 pm. The attendees were Deans of different Colleges, and heads of Departments together with a significant number of lecturers and students of all different stages of the Lebanese French University. Mr. Wzhar Fahri started the session by giving a short introduction to the topic and its importance. Then, the second speaker lecturer Suzan Sabri explained the concept of Feminism as Western Ideology. Nevertheless, she discussed the struggle for women’s rights in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the differences with Western societies. In addition, the different waves of feminism in the Kurdistan region together with their aims, challenges, and achievements were highlighted. Furthermore, the necessity of recommendations and further studies from the perception of Kurdish Academics on this subject was mentioned.
In the course of the workshop, the audience had the chance to ask several questions and give comments related to feminism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Workshop Outcome:
The following recommendations were given to solve the women’s rights struggle in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
• Analyzing the topic of Feminism and how to implement the ideology of feminism within our society.
• The effect of Western feminist waves linked to different periods of struggle for women’s rights in the Kurdistan region of Iraq together with their aims.
