College of Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Information Technology finished the last session of their training entitled “Insight on Machine Learning Algorithms & Python Libraries“, presented by two faculty members Assistant Prof. Dr. Saravana Balaji and Assistant Lecturer Mrs. Azheen Ghafour Mohammed, both from Information Technology Dept.
This was a training for building the capacity of the faculty with the new updates in machine learning and python libraries. The training took place for two months, starting from 27th September 2021 to 18th November 2021, on Mondays and Thursdays, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
The trainees got the ability to analysis the need for machine learning algorithms according to their problem domain. Now, they are able to understand and use various in-built libraries available in the python language for data science operations. They also know how to optimize the solution developed with the usage of any optimization technique over the machine learning algorithm adapted by them. There were 20 trainees in attendance, most of them were faculty members from the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
Training Outcomes:
This course provides a broad introduction to machine learning, datamining, and statistical pattern recognition. Topics include:
- Supervised learning (parametric/non-parametric algorithms, support vector machines, kernels, neural networks).
- Unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction, recommender systems, deep learning).
- Best practices in machine learning (bias/variance theory; innovation process in machine learning and AI). The course will also draw from numerous case studies and applications, so that you’ll also learn how to apply learning algorithms to building smart robots (perception, control), text understanding (web search, anti-spam), computer vision, medical informatics, audio, database mining, and other areas.

- Saravana Balaji B
Dr. Saravana Balaji B is currently working as Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Lebanese French University, Erbil, Kurdistan, Iraq. He has 16 years of teaching and research experience. His research interests are cloud computing, machine learning, and computer networks. He has been acted as a resource person for various workshops and faculty development programs organized by various institutions. He completed his undergraduate, postgraduate engineering degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and earned a Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering. So for he has published more than 50 research articles in various reputed international SCI & Scopus indexed journals, conferences, and 3 patents.
- Azheen Ghafour Mohammed
Azheen Ghafour Mohammed, is an Assistant Lecturer at the Lebanese French University, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Information Technology, since September 2020 up to now. She has earned her master’s degree (MSC.) in Computer System Engineering, from the University of Kurdistan Hewler, back in 2017. She has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, also from the University of Kurdistan Hewler. Research interests include the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Communication, Telecommunication and Mobile Networks, Computer System Designs, Programmable Devices, and Embedded Systems.
