The department of Sociology offers a Bachelor degree of Sociology. The program duration consists of four years and provides students a comprehensive knowledge of sociological theories, research methodology and other models with their application to real-life situations. The program also introduces concepts such as social relations, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behaviour to students. Furthermore, students will learn how to investigate the structure of groups, organizations, and societies, as well as how people interact within these contexts. In addition to what has been said, students will study sociology in classrooms and will perform scientific journeys within the Kurdish society. Throughout the journeys, students will be guided by research professors and successful social researchers.
A bachelor degree in sociology exists of a eight-semester program where students are required to accumulate 150-credits. The program is designed to meet market needs and allows students to find better opportunities and analyse problem-based situations. The program prepares students how to analyse everything that is related to sociology such as short contacts between anonymous individuals in the street to social topics on a global scale. Students will be equipped with the latest knowledge and practice in studying subjects such as family interactions, religious traditions and organized crime, and a better understand of issues surrounding race, gender and social classes.

The principles of modern pedagogy will be used to facilitate and enable learning in the field of sociology. Students become the centre of education while teachers will facilitate their learning skills. Principles of competency-based education and ICT-based learning will enhance students’ competency in sociology.
The bachelor’s degree in sociology supports students to learn and connect to the labour market as a clear pathway towards students’ placement after completing their degree. Students will enjoy learning for all modules they cover during their academic path. Different methods, including theoretical lectures, seminar, case study, on-job-training, project-based learning, and problem-based learning will be used. The sociology programs are designed to produce graduates who can engage the world thoughtfully, critically, and creatively. Our hope is that the coursework we require will not only provide a solid base of anthropological or sociological knowledge and a set of skills to collect and evaluate information, but also that our assignments, readings, and classroom discussions will foster a sense of engagement as citizens committed to making the world more humane and liveable.
