An International Workshop: The Washback Effect on Students’ Creativity

The workshop in brief:

On 18 December 2024, the General Education Department at the College of Education and Languages hosted an international workshop titled “The Washback Effect on Students’ Creativity.” The workshop aimed to give a clear understanding of the washback effect, focusing on ways to reduce its negative impact and enhance its positive influence.

Assistant Professor Dr. Baiti opened the session by explaining what washback is and discussing its different types. Following this, Dr. Hafizah shared insights into how test washback affects the education system in the Kurdistan Region. To conclude, Dr. Nahlah proposed practical principles to help achieve beneficial washback in teaching and testing.

This workshop provided valuable strategies for educators and policymakers to promote creativity while addressing the effects of testing.
