Department of English Language Conducted a National Workshop Entitled: Literature as a Strategy to Broaden Students’ Vocabulary

On June 6, 2024, the Department of English Language at the College of Education and Languages, Lebanese French University, successfully conducted a workshop focusing on the utilization of literature to expand students’ vocabulary. Asst. Lect. Meram Salim, a lecturer at the Department of English Language, started the workshop sharing scholarly definitions of literature, its genres, and the role of literature in language learning and improvement. She also discussed the benefits of using both classic and modern literature for language development. Following Asst. Lect. Meram Salim’s presentation, Asst. Lect. Nian Saeed a lecturer at the Department of English Language, explored into the definition of language and language learning. Asst. Lect. Nian Saeed highlighted six key points on how to broaden students’ vocabulary and emphasized the essential role of teachers in assisting students in this area.

Workshop Outcomes:

1. Participants gained a profound understanding of the concept of literature and its significance in language learning.
2. At he workshop provided a clear definition of language and language learning, enabling participants to design more effective learning strategies.
3. Participants discovered six methods to expand students’ vocabulary and learned about practical techniques to implement in their classrooms.
4. The session emphasized the critical role of teachers in facilitating students’ language development and vocabulary growth.
