Enhancing AODV routing protocol to support QoS

  • Mobile Ad-hoc Networks MANET support for Quality ofService (QoS) is bonded by the capability of the routing protocol to select nodes that can provide the necessaryresources that meet the QoS requirement. MANET is formedfrom wireless devices (nodes) that have limited resources andlacks any central management entity. Therefore, nodes insidethe network have to exchange extra information to gainknowledge of other nodes capability inside the network, which in result consumes nodes limited resource. This paper proposes an enhancement to reactive routing protocol such as(Ad-Hoc ON Demand Distance Vector (AODV), by addingextra information about nodes processing delay to the routingmessages and share it with the source of data that requested aroute. Then the source node uses this information with thehop count gathered through the routing process to send thedata that requires less delay through a path that combines theshortest path with minimum delay. Simulation resultsconducted using riverbed simulation software shows animprovement in the packet delivery ratio PDR andEnd-to-End delay for Minimum Delay Ad-Hoc ON DemandDistance Vector) (MD-AODV).
