Improving adult literacy Education: International Perspectives ;International Workshop
Under the patronage of the President of the Lebanese French University Dr.Mohammad Sadik and the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Languages Dr. Shareef Moulud, the Department of General Education conducted an international workshop with reference to the official decree no. ED&L271 issued by the deanship of the College of Education and Languages on the date 4/1/2021.
The workshop took on Saturday, 3/4/2021 via the Zoom Meeting platform and was delivered by Mr. Adams Bott, the Director and Education in JHK organization and lead teacher in cybergymnasiet, Stockholm. Sweden. The Assistant Lecturer. Laveen Kamaran, the head of Imperial English Language program at LFU presented the workshop and gave an introduction to the subject matter. The workshop was under the title of; “Improving adult literacy Education: International Perspectives” The workshop was about literacy in general and adult literacy in specific.
The speakers shed the light on the importance of literacy for the empowerment of marginalized groups. Adam Bott who was the director of education in the JHK organization described his experiences from an ongoing pilot study implementing the “empowerment group” method for mother-tongue literacy education with Yazidi IDPs from the Sinjar area, and he also discussed what could be done to meet institutional, social and pedagogical obstacles to adult literacy education in Iraq today. The workshop was attended by all faculty members of the College of Education and Languages from various departments and majors as well as members from other colleges in the university. They were about 30 .They actively corresponded to the topics highlighted in the session through the raised questions that were asked to speakers.
