National workshop: The Monk and the Monkey Mind

On Thursday, November,3rd, 2022, the Department of English held the national workshop entitled “The Monk and Monkey Mind”. Asst. Lect. Meram Salim presented an introduction about the title of the workshop. Clarifying that the topic is a summary of Jay Shetty’s book Think Like a Monk, besides, the workshop was an answer for questions like: Why are we restless, stressed, unhappy? How to avoid negativity? Who am I? How to be grateful ? How  important breath is for  your mental health? Meanwhile, Miss. Eiram Amjed explained about the Features of the Monkey Mind and how it can result in becoming restless, stressed, and unhappy? Later on, Mrs. Meram Salim had answered the questions by presenting the features of the Monk Mind and how negativities within the mind can be dealt with some mental practices like meditation.

Workshop Outcome

  1. The participants were familiarized with both of Monk and Monkey mindsets.
  2. They have become aware of the roots of the majority of negativities they face.
  3. Throughout the presentation the participants become aware of the importance of meditation practices.

Presenter/s Information

  1. Assistant Lecturer Meram Salim Shekh Mohamad joined Lebanese French University in September 2021 as a faculty member of English Department, College of Education and Languages. She completed her Bachelor Degree in English Language and Literature at Salahaddin University-Erbil. She obtained her Master Degree at Soran University.
  2. Eiram Amjed Khudhr, joined Lebanese French University in September 2021. Teaching Literary and linguistics subjects in English Department, College of Education and Languages.  She completed her BA and MA from Salahaddin University in 2015, and 2020/ Applied Linguistics.
