The Barriers of Learning Foreign Languages

On Tuesday,  January 25, 2022, the Department of French Language organized the international workshop entitled “ The barriers of learning foreign languages : French-English”. Associate Professor Dr. Ranjini Christopher from Department of Languages, Women’s Christian College (An Autonomous Institution ), Affiliated to the University of Madras, Chennai, India joined online, have presented the first session. Dr. Ranjini Christopher, discussed the barriers of learning a foreign language generally. Next, Prof. Dr. Vinnaras Nithyanantham, Professor in Education, General Education Department, College of Education and Languages at Lebanese French University, Erbil, presented the second session. Prof. Dr. Vinnaras Nithyanantham, addressed the barriers of learning English language in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Finally, Ms. Sarah Kayfi in French department, Assistant Lecturer and HOD, in French Language Department, College of Education and Languages at Lebanese French University, Erbil, presented the last session. Ms. Sarah Kayfi addressed the barriers of learning French Language in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. 

Workshop Outcome

•           It was useful for foreign language teachers since they have to deal with the problems their students experience while learning a foreign language. 

•           Knowing the factors that impede their students‟ foreign language learning experience may help them to prevent the problems by applying appropriate methods and techniques. 

•           The students can also be informed about the problems they may face while learning a foreign language beforehand 

•           The outcomes should also be shared with the policy makers so that appropriate safety measures can be taken while preparing the foreign  language curriculum.

Presenter/s Information

  1. Dr. Ranjini Christopher holds PhD – Doctor of Philosophy, French. Currently, she is Associate Professor of French and Head, in department of Languages, Women’s Christian College (An autonomous institution) affiliated to the university of Madras, Chennai, India. 
  2. Prof. Dr. Vinnaras Nithyanantham holds PhD in Education and five masters in different subjects like social science and Psychology in India. He is an editor and reviewer of nine international journals and a foreign external examiner of evaluation PhD thesis. Currently, he is the Professor in Education, General Education Department, College of Education and Languages at Lebanese French University, Erbil, Iraq
  3. Ms. Sarah Kayfi, holds master in Didactics of French as a Foreign / Second language and Languages of the World. Currently, she is Assistant Lecturer and HOD, in French Language Department, College of Education and Languages at Lebanese French University, Erbil, Iraq.
